Vocalise Africa uses interactive Radio Drama and Community Theatre to promote communities’ acquisition of new knowledge and social transformation on various issues such as climate change, youth empowerment, participation in sustainable livelihood opportunities, good governance and addressing gender inequalities among other contemporary issues. First, we identify, train and use local youth talent to address the issues impacting the community.
We are conscious that helping communities to embrace transformative behaviors is a process that requires deep understanding and appreciation of peoples’ social cultural backgrounds and therefore requires non-critical judgement of their current knowledge. Through our cyclic radio drama methodology, we engage communities in shaping narratives on the need for change.
Overtime, we have achieved tremendous success as previously rigid communities adopt new knowledge and become passionate agents of change in abandoning retrogressive norms that hinder societies from realizing their full potential. Vocalise Africa uses Radio Drama to engage learners in school and also the general public through formations of community drama listening clubs. Through this initiative, we are able to address core issues hindering acquisition of new knowledge and social transformation.
